Do you have allergies, emphysema, or other respiratory illnesses?
If so, you may need to have an air purifier in your home to make breathing a little easier. Air purifiers clean the dust and allergens out of the air in our home. However, it can be confusing as to what type to buy.
Whole House Air Purifiers
Don't Buy a tiny air purifier to save money. Research has shown that a whole house purifier is much more effective than small air purifiers. Small versions do not save money because they simply do not work.
Whole house air purifiers can come in a portable tower unit or they can be hooked up to central furnace and air conditioning. Both types are effective. The main goal is to get something powerful enough to circulate all the air in the home.
Air Purifier Placebo
The air purifier doesn't magically take care of all allergen problems. You still need to keep items like carpet, bedding, and drapery extremely clean. Dust and allergens love these areas and an air purifier can't get to them. In addition, avoidance is the best policy for allergens. If you are allergic to something stay away from it. For example, if you are allergic to cats, don't buy both an air purifier and a cat. You will still find yourself allergic to the cat.
Electrostatic Precipitation
Electrostatic precipitation air purifiers are the most effective. You will not have to buy replacement filters, but instead you will need to clean the electrostatic plates every few months.
Conclusion
Buy a whole house air purifier that uses electrostatic precipitation technology. You may also want to consider a hybrid such as a Hepa filter along with electrostatic precipitation air purifier.
